Na zábradlí theatre, or the House at the Green Hat stands at the corner of Na Zábradlí street and Anenské náměstí. The Neoclassical building dates to 1832, but its history goes back to the early 12th century, when the Church of St John the Baptist Na zábradlí was built. For today’s generation, Divadlo Na Zábradlí is above all a place where the first Czech President, Václav Havel, worked and where a number of his plays were performed, but also a theatre which is now one of the most progressive and highest rated domestically, with a number of successful productions staged throughout Europe.

The requirement for structural and layout changes relates directly to the fact that after many decades Divadlo Na Zábradlí is moving out of Pachtuv Palace premises, thus losing their foyer and entrance to the theatre. The unobtrusive glass roof at the gallery on the second floor sloping from the entrance to the rear gallery resonates with the atrium slope, forming a full representative room used by both performance visitors and the actors themselves and other artists when cultural events are held.

The new lobby and gallery space is simple, universal and also inspiring and allows for changes just like the theatre stage, and should become another cultural opportunity, experience and value which the theatre showcases. The complete newly designed premises are integrated and use the same colours. The colours arise from the newly designed Divadlo Na Zábradlí graphics, and are in essence sober and timeless. Light is also an important part of the design, with daylight penetrating deeply into the courtyard through the glass features and artificial light whose positioning and lightness of shape allow for a theatre ambiance.
