Family house in Čelákovice

The building is the last in a row of houses in Na Nábřeží Street, which was developed progressively starting in the 1930s. Besides its own plot, sloping from the south to the north, and the exposure (view of the river on one side and open adjacent gardens on the other), its architecture is thus influenced by the context of the surrounding development. It is for this reason that the house is designed as a combination of two forms: a traditional shape with a hip roof and a modern element in the form of a horizontal garden pavilion.

The form also follows the function: the taller section with the hip roof is intended for the family’s daytime and common activities, while the low horizontal section provides privacy for sitting rooms and bedrooms. Both parts intersect at a vertical link: a straight staircase joining the house entrance, on the ground floor in the north, with a hallway providing access to both house sections on the upper floor in the south. The path through the house is accompanied by light coming from a longitudinal skylight in the roof. The lower part of the house then widens on both sides to provide protection from the weather by the car entrance, as well as a semi-enclosed patio directly connected to the garden on the garden side. All the main areas are on the same level; a spare room with facilities is prepared off to the side.

The house is plain, easy to navigate, and provides room for a family and occasional visitors or the temporary cohabitation of two generations.
